If skilled employees are required to enter the UK, they must first obtain a Skilled Worker visa (formerly the Tier 2 visa). If you have been given a skilled employment in the United Kingdom, you can apply for this visa. This visa requires a salary of £25,600, or the specified wage criterion for the occupation, sometimes known as the ‘going rate.’

UK Skilled Worker Visa Details

The Qualified Worker visa permits skilled people to advance their careers in the United Kingdom. According to the UK Skilled Worker Regulations, the maximum time of residence is 5 years. The Skilled Worker Visa is a points-based visa, which means that applicants must earn at least 70 points to be evaluated. The points are given out depending on the following criteria:
  • Whether you have an employer's Certificate of Sponsorship

  • Whether or if you're getting a fair wage

  • Your ability to communicate in English

  • The funds you have set aside for maintenance

If you meet these requirements, you can apply for a Skilled Worker Visa.
The Tier 2 visa is subdivided into subcategories to accommodate the following professionals:
  • Tier 2 General Visa:

    For employees with a job offer in the United Kingdom and a profession on the shortage occupation list. The Skilled Worker visa has taken its place.

  • Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer Visa:

    For employees of companies relocating to the United Kingdom.

  • Tier 2 Minister of Religion Visa:

    For religious ministers working for a religious organisation.

  • Tier 2 Sportsperson Visa:

    For coaches and athletes working for a sports organisation.

If you have been granted a Skilled Worker visa, you may:
  • Study in the United Kingdom

  • Bring family members to the United Kingdom.

  • Travel to and from the United Kingdom

PROCESSING TIME

You have three months to apply for this visa before you start working in the UK. The commencement date will be included in the sponsorship certificate you will get from your UK company.
Within three weeks of submitting your application, you will receive a response on your visa application. The processing time for many applications is likely to be decreased when the UK government adds new occupations to the Shortage Occupation List.

HOW LONG CAN A SKILLED WORKER VISA BE USED FOR?

This visa allows you to remain for a maximum of 5 years.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

The following documents are required for the UK Tier 2 Visa:

SKILLED WORKER DEPENDENT VISA

The Skilled Worker dependent visa is for children and partners of those who have come to the country on a Skilled Worker visa or have applied for one.
The following persons qualify for a Skilled Worker dependent visa:
  • Spouse

  • Unmarried or with a partner of the same sex

  • At the time of application, children under the age of 18

  • Children over the age of 18 who are dependents

  • Spouses and partners should have a real relationship and plan to live together for the duration of their stay in the nation.

  • Maintenance funds:

    Dependents of skilled workers do not have access to public money; nonetheless, they must demonstrate enough financial means for the duration of their stay in the UK, and if there are dependents, they must demonstrate an extra £ 630 available for each dependant.

  • Age:

    The principal applicant and dependent must be at least 18 on the date of arrival in the United Kingdom, or when the visa is issued.

  • Other requirements:

    You must not have previously had a UK student visa or a short-term study visa on or after April 2015, or have been granted leave as a parent of a Tier 4 student on or after April 2015. (child).

In addition, you must meet the normal entrance requirements. You must have a clean immigration background, with no instances of overstaying. You must not intend to stay in the UK when your spouse’s or relative’s visa expires.

Application process:

  • Skilled Worker dependent visa applications can be submitted concurrently or later with the main Skilled Worker visa application.

  • Successful applicants will be granted leave in line with the lead visa applicant's leave schedule, regardless of when the applications are filed.

  • The approval process for a Tier 2 based visa might differ depending on where it is granted.

As a holder of Skilled Worker dependent visas, you can:

  • Remain in the United Kingdom for the same amount of time as the primary Skilled Worker visa holder.

  • Work, with limited exceptions

  • Under specific circumstances, you can study or take a postgraduate course.

  • If you continue to fulfil the eligibility requirements, you can apply to renew your visa in accordance with the primary applicant. You will not be able to request for an extension after the essential visa holder has left the UK.

  • You cannot access public funds, or work as a doctor in training, or as a dentist, or as a sports instructor for professionals
